SAVE THE RAT A collective community space in need of saving!
Save the Rat is the just launched fundraising campaign for the award winning and much-loved accessible arts
space in Sydneyʼs inner-west the Red Rattler with a goal to ensure the venue stays open. The Rattlerʼs 5th
birthday party is fast approaching and therefore a dedicated team of unpaid board members, as well as a crew of
over 50 volunteers, are all working tirelessly on the Red Rattlerʼs fundraising activities and events. Their aim is to
raise loan costs in order to acquire a 40% share of the building.
A $20,000 acquisitive prize for a painting inspired by the Australian Landscape, in addition the UNSW College of Fine Art will offer a selected artist the opportunity to create a limited edition print, plus Parker’s Sydney Fine Art Supplies will present a voucher to the value of $500 to the Highly Commended recipient and Lucio’s will present a voucher to the value of $250 for the Highly Commended recipient.

The John Fries Memorial Prize for emerging visual artists is a non-acquisitive award of $10,000.
This annual prize is open to all artists resident in Australia and New Zealand who are not enrolled as a student and whose work is not represented in the collection of an Australian state, territory or national public art gallery.
Artists of all ages and disciplines are eligible to enter and you do not need to be a member of Copyright Agency|Viscopy.
The prize has been donated by the Fries family in memory of former Viscopy director and honorary treasurer, John Fries, who made a remarkable contribution to the life and success of Viscopy.

2013 Judges announced
The four judges for the 2013 Prize have been announced.
Studio for rent
SAS has one studio for $106 p.w. and a half studio for $60pw. All studios are on ground level, have excellent flat light, there is back lane access and only five 5 studios in total. SAS also has a small gallery and now an upstairs area for workshops, events, film screenings, and open to all ideas. Go to our website for images and more information.

We have a cosy gallery perfect for anyone starting out on a smaller scale for installations. The walls are thick plywood and can be drilled, painted, anything and there’s timber ceiling where things and can be suspended. This s a great opportunity for a postgraduate student to experiment with a managable installation space.

Nillumbik Shire Council in association with Montsalvat presents one of the longest running art shows in Victoria, The Nillumbik Prize. This Prize celebrates contemporary art, the artists and works of the Nillumbik region. Entrants must demonstrate a connection to the Shire of Nillumbik as a local artist or through a Statement of Connection.
1st Prize: $5,000 (non-acquisitive) for a contemporary work of excellence in any medium.
Two commendations and a People’s Choice Award, each to the value of $500, will also be awarded.
Entries can be submitted online via the Montsalvat website from the 25th February. Entry forms will also be available.
Lethbridge small scale prize

The Lethbridge Gallery has established a strong reputation for exhibiting works demonstrating exceptional detail and creativity. With the intention of fostering the next generation of artists, Lethbridge Gallery initiated the Lethbridge 10 000.
In its fourth year, this exciting art competition is open to national and international artists for small-scale artworks. Entrants may submit paintings, drawings, photographs and all 2D artworks up to 60cm (24 inches) in any direction. The judging is based on three equally evaluated criteria of creativity, originality and skill with $10 000 awarded to the winner.

City of Kogarah Art Prize 2013
A prize for painting
Kogarah City Council is proud to announce the opening of the second annual City of Kogarah Art Prize, a national acquisitive prize for painting, in any medium, with a prize pool of $12,000 and an open theme.
Council is pleased to annouce that the 2013 Kogarah Art Prize will be judged by Aida Tomescu.
A significant Australian artist, Tomescu won the Sulman Prize in 1996, the Wynne Prize in 2001 and was awarded the Dobell Prize for Drawing at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in 2003. Her work is held in collections including the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, Artbank, the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the British Museum, London. Tomescu is represented by Liverpool Street Gallery and her recent work can be viewed here.
Entries for the City of Kogarah Art Prize 2013 will be received at Jubilee Community Centre on Monday 20 May 2013 from 8.30am to 6.00pm. Jubilee Community Centre is on Level 2 of WIN Jubilee Stadium at the corner of Park Street and Jubilee Avenue, Carlton.
The 2013 Kogarah Art Prize winners will be announced by the Mayor of Kogarah Cr Nickolas Varvaris at a special opening night event on Friday 14 June 2013 at the Kogarah Library and Cultural Centre in Belgrave Street, Kogarah commencing at 6.30pm.
