This week sees the start of March and we all know what happens in March…Art Month Sydney! celebrating the vibrancy and diversity of contemporary art in Sydney by throwing open the gallery doors and presenting over 200 exhibitions and events. During March Art Month invites you try new art experiences, visit Sydney’s varied art spaces and explore contemporary art conundrums. Grab some friends, visit some galleries and have a local adventure.

Penrith Courses
Learn the basics or brush up on your camera skills to unleash the photographer from within, become
inspired to create and capture those special moments in time. This intensive workshop will give you a starting point
to produce photographs that inspire you and others. Classes are held at  Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest.

Want to be Creative with your camera? Only using the automatic mode or want to gain a full understanding of your camera.
This course is about learning to use your digital SLR camera with confidence, skill and gaining the creative edge.
Saturday & Sunday 23- 24 February 10am-5pm

In this two week course you will learn the essentials of large format film photography.
Emphasis will be placed on the aspects that differentiate large format from the smaller formats,
such as – higher resolution; perspective control; focal length and depth of field effects;
as well as the slower, more contemplative approach required.

The portable flash is one of the photographers most versatile tools.
This course will teach you to achieve amazing results from simple techniques like bouncing,
diffusing or focusing the light, using controlled fill-flash, dragging the shutter and using high-speed sync.

The print is the culmination of the darkroom process. In this beginners’ short course you will be
introduced to the various techniques of darkroom wet printing. Your tutor, Michael Waite,
will go through the basics of print exposure and development and dodging and burning.

As a freelance photographer it is important to know your rights and be able to explain them to clients.
This course outlines how to build and maintain a good reputation and also how to ensure the industry remains sustainable.

In environmental portraiture the subject’s environment is the stage and sets the scene – it provides evidence
or clues as to a person’s tastes, interests and socio-economic background. A good environmental portrait should
allow the viewer to speculate about the sitter’s character and interests.

Enter the world of Photographic Artist George Gittoes. Discover his approach to being on the frontline as a photographer
and uncover how to prepare for the confronting situations that may arise in war torn countries.
Students have the opportunity to gain an understanding of what it’s like to be in the midst of conflict
