CALL OUT: William Plank Public Art Memorial Prize

The William Plank Public Art Memorial Prize

•Proposals due 6.00 pm, Thursday 8 March 2012.

William Plank (Bill to his friends) was one of the most prolific and influential mural
artists of his generation, a regular participant in the thriving Newtown arts scene,
and an all-round great guy.

As anyone who knew Bill would remember, his three favourite things in the entire
world were public art, heated competition, and online democracy. As such, A
TVP is proud to honour his memory by launching the William Plank Public Art Memorial Prize in 2012.

Starting in March, the competition will take place over nine months and pit eighteen
Sydney artists against one another in a battle to produce the greatest mural of them all.
Each month, three artists will have eight hours to each produce a mural at the gallery.
The artworks will be uploaded to our website where the general public will be invited to
vote for their favourite work. The winner of each heat will proceed to the next round until a champion is decided.

For more info and to take part, please visit:
• Winner takes home $500 cash prize and personalised trophy.
Each runner-up will receive a cash prize of $250.
• Proposals due 6.00 pm, Thursday 8 March 2012.
• First Heat starts 10 am, Saturday 31 March 2012 and will take place on a monthly basis.
In case of rain, the event will be moved to the following week.
• Any medium may be used and innovative approaches are encouraged.
• Limited basic art materials will be available but participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own supplies.
• Two of the boards are 3.6 x 1.8m and the third is 2.46m x 1.24m – distribution to be decided by drawing straws (or polite agreement).

Serial Space Suitcase Market: CALL FOR VENDORS

Due to popular demand, Serial Space brings Sydney another SUITCASE MARKET! As part of Art Month,
we will host Chippendale’s very own version of Brisbane’s hugely successful Suitcase Rummage.

Vendors can sell whatever they like – vintage records, unsigned music, clothes, jewellery, baked goods,
literature, house hold bric-a-brac, art related ephemera, advice – as long as it fits into a suitcase or 2 (max).

No trestle tables. No clothes racks. No fuss.

All vendors must REGISTER by the 15 MARCH ($10 plus booking fee):

Buyers can just turn up on the day.

So if you’ve got a suitcase full of stuff gathering dust under your bed, or just an empty one waiting to be filled,
take your luggage down to Serial Space and join in the haggling.

All welcome. All weather.

DATE: Saturday, 17 March, 2012
TIME: 10am-4pm (Vendors set-up from 9am)
LOCATION: Serial Space, 33 Wellington St, Chippendale, NSW, 2008
