Basil Sellers Art Prize 2012
The ‘World Cup’ of art prizes is calling for entries.
The focus is on sport in the broadest possible sense.
Artists are invited to approach the theme in whatever way best
suits both their practice and their attitude to sport:
positively or critically, directly or indirectly. We encourage artists
at any stage in their careers to enter and are seeking artworks in
a range of media and styles. There is no other opportunity like it.
Submissions close 5pm, Friday 24 June 2011
Finalists receive a unique level of recognition and support for
their artistic practice. Shortlisted entries feature in a major
exhibition at the Ian Potter Museum of Art that is supported by a
catalogue, public program and promotional campaign. Finalists each
receive a $3,000 participation fee and also go in the running for
the $5,000 People’s Choice Award and a Basil Sellers Creative
Fellowship at the National Sports Museum, Melbourne.
The major cash prize is $100,000.
Artists shortlisted for the prize in 2008 and 2010 have described their
participation as a career highlight. They include: Vernon Ah Kee,
James Angus, Eric Bridgeman, Jon Cattapan, Daniel Crooks, Kate Daw
and Stewart Russell, Ivan Durrant, Juan Ford, Phillip George,
Tarryn Gill and Pilar Mata Dupont, Shaun Gladwell, Ponch Hawkes, Mark Hilton,
Grant Hobson, David Jolly, Josie Kunoth Petyarre and Dinni Kunoth Kemarre,
Richard Lewer, Noel McKenna, Glenn Morgan, Selina Ou, David Ray, Scott Redford,
Elvis Richardson, Gareth Sansom, Tony Schwensen and Anne Zahalka.
