OPENINGS AND THE ARTS IN SYDNEY 25/04/2011 – 01/05/2011


Welcome to another week of a grand opening, raising money for Kaleidoscope-Gallery ‘ who are moving’,

many many shows and towards the end of this post we have a lot of art opportunities listed.

This week the Moran Prize finalists  were announced.
They are now online http://www.moranprizes.com.au
The exhibition will be displayed at the State Library of NSW
from 21st of April to 26th June 2011.
The winner and highly commended works will be announced 10:30am
Tuesday 3rd May at a press conference at the State Library of
New South Wales which all finalists are invited to attend.
The semi finalist selection will also be viewed on a large screen at the exhibition.

The aim of the David Harold Tribe Sculpture Award is to promote interest in
sculpture and to encourage the creation of sculpture in Australia, to help
and give incentive to sculptors and to provide them with additional monetary
amounts thus enabling them to further their education in the field of
sculpture and enabling them to improve their creative skills and through
the above means to improve the general public appreciation of sculpture.

The Jyväskylä Centre for Printmaking welcomes printmakers to apply for a
one month residence in October / November 2011

Welcome to the Paddington Art Prize 2011,

a $20,000 acquisitive prize for a painting i
nspired by the Australian Landscape. This National Prize is now in its eighth year and
will be held at Menzies Art Brands Gallery, 12 Todman Ave Kensington, Sydney N.S.W.
The Opening Night and Prize Presentations will be held on Wednesday 5th October from 6pm-8pm.
Exhibition dates Tuesday 4 October until Sunday 23 October.

This year we welcome an inaugural Prize sponsored by Gavin Wilson and Maggy Todd of a
two week Artists’ Retreat at “Warry’s Cottage”, Hill End, N.S.W. and are most thankful

In addition International Art Services have generously provided their premises
for the delivery, judging and collection of paintings and once again will be
Sponsoring the People’s Choice Award of $2,000.

The University of New South Wales College of Fine Arts will again offer a selected
artist the opportunity to create a limited edition print, plus Menzies Art Brands
will sponsor their elegant premises and present a prize of Art Supplies to the
value of $500 to each of the Honourable Mentions.
At the request of numerous artists, we are offering artists in 2011 the choice to
enter their painting/paintings via disc or alternatively, enter their painting/paintings
by delivering to International Art Services 2/55 Kent Road Mascot Sydney NSW, 2020
from 10am-4pm on the dates listed below. Please note there are separate dates associated
with these two methods of entry. There is a limit of two paintings per artist with an
entry fee of $45-00 for a single entry or $80 for 2 entries.

Entry Method 1: DISC ENTRIES.
DISC ENTRIES to be posted to The Paddington Art Prize, PO Box 1469 Double Bay NSW 1360.
Images should be a minimum of 1000×750 pixels @72 dpi. File size of each image should
not exceed 1mb. File name/s should correspond with the title of the work/s on the entry form.
Discs will not be returned unless a stamped addressed envelope or package is included.

CLOSING DATE for DISC ENTRIES: Thursday 1 September. All entries must be accompanied by the
signed and witnessed application form together with the entry fee.
JUDGING of DISC ENTRIES: Wednesday 14 September. ONLY successful applicants
will be notified on Thursday 15 September.

SUCCESSFUL DISC ENTRIES: Paintings MUST be delivered to
International Art Services 2/55 Kent Road, Mascot 2020.

COLLECTION OF NON FINALISTS PAINTINGS:
Collection Thursday 29 September, Friday 30 September from 10am-4pm
and Monday 3 October 10am-4pm. Paintings not collected by Monday 3 October
will incur a storage fee of $2-80 inclusive of GST per day made payable to International Art Services.

Call for Proposals 2011


galleryeight is an artist run initiative that showcases the work of emerging, innovative and
experimental artists. We are located in Sydney’s new art precinct, Walsh Bay/Millers Point.
galleryeight is currently accepting proposals for solo or group shows for the second half of 2011.
We are also seeking expressions of interest for a group show opening this April 1 – Fabrication.

As the show opens on April fools day, the theme will be “Hoax”. We are accepting proposals from
artists of all disciplines. Artists are encouraged to interpret or explore the theme “Hoax” or “fabrication”.
Hoax: deception: an act intended to trick people into believing something is real when it is not.
– something intended to deceive or defraud.

The show runs for three weeks. Proposals are due by Tuesday the 22nd of February.
Gallery fees include promotional, assisted installation and opening hours supervision!
To submit a proposal please include a brief artist’s statement, images of the work (if available) and a CV.
galleryeight is also always happy to hear from volunteers that can assist in a curatorial or marketing
capacity, as well as people that can just offer there time to assist at openings or baby sit the space.
