Firstly we want to mention some sad news – Defiance Gallery It is with great sadness that we share the news of Madeleine Halliday’s passing. Madeleine will be greatly missed by all that knew her. RIP

Summary: Glass Artists’ Gallery of Glebe takes Australia’s finest glass artists to
COLLECT 2011 at the Saatchi Gallery Chelsea, come and see the show before it is whisked of to London.
The Glass Artists’ Gallery of Glebe will once again be taking some of Australia’s
finest glass artists to London for one of the most prestigious events of the
international cultural calendar. COLLECT has established world renown as a premier
annual fair for contemporary art of outstanding appeal held at the Saatchi Gallery,
Chelsea in May.

The Glass Artist’s Gallery is the only Australian Gallery to be selected for COLLECT this year.
Debuting at COLLECT for 2011 are: Denise Pepper whose brightly coloured ‘pate de verre’
flummeries deceive the eye and taste buds, Rebecca Coote’s evocative ‘Lighthouses’ sculptures
of glass, steel, light and shadow and Andy Baldwin’s powerfully graceful blown forms. Come
and see the art before it is whisked off to London.

Heartlands Refugee Art Prize 2011 call for Entries

Multicultural Arts Victoria and AMES are glad to announce the 2011 Heartlands
Refugee Art Prize. We are summoning all Refugee artists (must be Australian
Residents from 1970 to 2011)to apply for entry. There is a total prize pool
of over $15,000.00 in cash and prizes to support artistic output and career
aspirations. The prizes will be awarded on Tuesday, June 14 at an exhibition
at fortyfivedownstairs, Melbourne.

What makes an artist run initiative successful? YOU!!

ESP Gallery is a non profit non commercial artist run initiative based in the
Marrickville community and supported by Marrickville Council. It relies on the
support of its volunteers to make its exciting art events so great.

ESP Gallery needs volunteers to: curate shows, install shows, mind the gallery
during opening hours. Opening hours are Thurs/Fri 3-6pm, Sat/Sun 11am – 4pm….
Gallery shifts are 3 hours on Thurs/Fri; 2.5 hours AM or PM on Sat/Sun. You can
choose your shift and how often you want to help out.

What do you get out of it? Practical experience with operating a gallery; FREE
membership of Edith Artists, the non profit organisation which operates ESP Gallery;
FREE public liability insurance while a member of Edith Artists; after 10 shifts,
eligible for FREE entry to one group show at ESP; a written artist reference for
your own projects; invitations to all openings and special events.

Plus you get to hang out with a really great bunch of local experienced artists.
And the warm glow of supporting a community arts organisation.
