Entries are called for the exhibition “It’z Az Plain Az Black and White” which hangs on Sun 21st Nov at Tap Gallery 278 Palmer St Darlinghurst NSW 2010.
I organize 2 large group shows per year for ALL genres’ of art with a central theme to help all artists “get their work out there” also help them with exhibition skills and practice and to network in person with other artists and possibly hone their skills or learn something “left field ” that they can introduce to their style.
The name of the show is the theme BUT!!! it is up to each individual artist to interpret the theme how they choose -so we get MANY different ideas!
IT DOESN”T have to be B/W but must have elements or it could be something as plain as the nose on your face etc etc –
CREATIVITY is the key.

The show hangs on sun 21 st nov and it is $30 per work , works are to be delivered to
tap gallery 278 palmer st darlinghurst, by that date, u can put in as many art works as u
like of any type of art (creativity is the key), the space is huge upstairs and downstairs.
i try to limit the work size to no more than 1.5 metres wide x 2 metres high, so if is a triptych
(ie 3 RELATED works ) and it fits in that space size that is fine (it will be charged as one work)
but it can’t be a photo or 2 paintings if u know wot i mean to be classed as a triptych.
all works must have on the back all of ur details the price and the name of the work.
on the front of ur work attach the same on a post it note.
any revelent info u wish to put to promote urself or bio or artist statement can be placed either on hanging
day by u or b4 opening nite.
all works are for sale and the gallery takes 26% commission. the $30 per work covers the cost of the gallery
for the 2 weeks , which isn’t cheap.
on opening nite i ask all participating artists to bring a plate of food, and sum drinks, plus really important a coupla
stacks of plastic cups.
so as we don’t end up with 50 packets of chips and 20 bottles of red cordial, 1 bottle of beer etc
i ask everyone just to check with me on wot we need etc. the cups are so important as at the “rusted show”
we had over 500 people and 1000 cups ran out quickly!
the show is about getting ur art out there and self promotion, networking, teaching people exhibition practices
having fun etc and i put on 2 a year with a theme this one is
now it can be interpreted any way u as the artist wishes it can be treated as a metaphor (for something being obvious etc)
or it can be B/W or colour with an element of B/W , be creative and think outside the square!!!
there will also be entertainment and i put these shows on for art’s sake and for a gathering of artists (we usually get around 75)
i make no money on this i do it because i can, so please spread the word. oh yes i don’t knock back any works unless there is more than 150 then i will ask any artists that say have 5 works to select one to take out,and so on if u get the idea?
to make sure everyone gets a fair go.
i curate the show and the works get put where they work best and flow together etc, if u help hang ur input will be noted but ,if it don’t flow it don’t go! (it’ll still get hung)
i hope that helps you some
i’ll send an entry asap or u can fill one in on the day u bring the work in.
Steve McLaren – curator
