Dobell Prize for Drawing
In instituting this annual prize, the Sir William Dobell
Art Foundation wishes to encourage excellence in drawing and draughtsmanship.
Value: $25,000 (acquisitive)
Medium: Unique work on paper or other suitable support in any medium or
combination of media. This includes those media and materials traditionally
associated with the practice of drawing (pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, etc.)
and those which are part of contemporary drawing practice, including pastel,
watercolour, collage etc.
Other information: Applicants must have been born in Australia or hold Australian
citizenship, and have been a resident in Australia for a period of 12 months
prior to the closing date. Works are to be completed during the 12 months
preceding the closing date.

Firstdraft is currently accepting proposals for its 2011 Exhibition,
Emerging Artist Studio Residency, Emerging Curators Programs and Emerging Arts Writers Programs.

Firstdraft is a non-profit gallery run on a voluntary basis by a group of practicing artists.
It is one of the longest running and most successful artist-run initiatives in Australia.
Firstdraft asserts the importance of contemporary art production, dissemination and discussion
in society, providing a stimulating exhibition space that is professional and accessible
for a diverse range of artistic practices and projects. Alongside its exhibition program,
Firstdraft runs a variety of other programs and projects and has recently launched a second venue,
Firstdraft Depot.

Exhibition Program:

* Exhibition proposals are invited from individuals and groups, artists and curators for
exhibitions showcasing emerging, experimental and innovative practices
* Firstdraft does not charge any commission on works sold during the exhibition
* Gallery rental fees include all promotional, opening and gallery-running costs

Emerging Curators Program:

* A fully subsidised three-week exhibition in the whole gallery (including promotion and opening costs)
* Access to and assistance with Firstdraft’s equipment and resources
* Funding and assistance for the production of a small catalogue to accompany the show and towards curatorial costs

Emerging Artists Studio Residency Program:

* A studio space at Firstdraft’s new off-site studio complex, the Firstdraft Depot
in Riley Street, Woolloomooloo, for ten weeks
* A fully subsidised three-week exhibition at Firstdraft upon completion of the program
* A flat artist fee for work completed as part of the program
* Firstdraft encourages proposals from artists working across interdisciplinary,
new media and collaborative practices for its Studio Program

Emerging Arts Writer in Residence:

* A 3-month writing mentorship with an established arts writer – Firstdraft will
negotiate the mentorship with your nominated arts writer on your behalf
* The opportunity to interview Firstdraft Studio artists to be published on the
Firstdraft Studio blog and/or the annual Firstdraft Studio Publication
* Writers’ fee of $500.

For less than $100, we can offer a limited number of on-pavement stands at this year’s
Marrickville Festival. Marrickville Festival attracts up to 50,000 people throughout
the event and this year we’re expecting an even bigger turn out as we have aligned
the event with the Crave Sydney International Food Festival ( which will attract extra promotions across Sydney.

If you are based in the Marrickville Local Government Area (LGA) or purchase local materials
or produce from the Marrickville area to create your goods we would love to hear from you.

The annual award for COFA artists and designers is now calling for submissions!!

The major prize is $1500 with runner up prizes including a fully subsidised
exhibition in 2011 at Kudos Gallery, a space in the amazing PYD Design markets,
an Ariel bookshop and Matisse product vouchers, a subscription to Artist Profile
magazine, a Sherman Foundation donation and membership pack, a feature spread in
DasSuperpaper, and a double pass t…o Gaff Aff from the Sydney Opera House.
This year our judging panel includes artist Janet Laurence, designer Benja Harney,
and MCA curator Anna Davis.

This is an Art AND Design Award organised by the KGMC and your student organisation –
Arc@COFA. You may enter any work in any medium that you have made in the last year,
the only restriction being that it is must be within 1.5×1.5m.

Bring your entry form and actual art work or design piece/concept up to the Arc@COFA
office for pre-judging.

All finalists will be exhibited at Kudos Gallery from 11-23 October.

The Award is a great way to end the year and bring the COFA community together.

Vortex Sculpture Prize 2010
Call for proposals.

Stone Villa Studios presents: ‘VORTEX’
A day-long, site responsive, outdoor art prize. First prize $1000.
To be held on Saturday 25th September, 2010, 11am – 4pm.
Sydenham Green on Railway Road between Sydenham Station and Princes Highway.
‘VORTEX’: named after the turbulent tunnel of howling air that follows in the
wake of landing aircraft approaching runway 3 of Sydney Airport: 30 seconds over Sydenham Green.
For one day approximately 20 artists will concentrate this body-shaking phenomenon
into soul-stirring artworks in the park next to Stone Villa Studios: the last house standing of a flattened row.
